CJ Urges Contracts Committee on Efficiency

Kampala. The Chief Justice on August 18, 2017 inaugurated the Contracts Committee and urged them to ensure that there is smooth-running procurement process.
He said the new team came at the right time when the Judiciary is in the process of automating its courts. "The new team should come with new vigour."
He added, "there is no reason why a service provider should take a long time to be paid when there are systems in place."
The incoming Contracts Committee Chairperson, HW Sarah Langa Siu, said after receiving the mantle from the outgoing Chairman, HW Isaac Muwata that her team will rely on team work, proper planning,confidentiality and an organised Procurement and Disposal Unit.
She appealed to user departments and theprocurement unit to accord the team all the necessary support.
The ceremony which took place in the Chief Justice's Boardroom at the High Court was attended by the Secretary to the Judiciary, Mr. Kagole E. Kivumbi, Ag. Chief Registrar, HW Tom Chemutai, CHRM, Mrs Josephine Muwonge and Senior Procurement Officer, Mr Tom Oyet.
The CJ commended the outgoing team headed by HW Isaac Muwata, the Registrar High Court, for their service and pledged support for the new team.
The Contracts Committee will be central in the planning and approval of contracts for over 70 percent (over Shs 93 billion) of Judiciary's 134 billion budget for the 2017/18 Financial Year for goods and services. This includes budgets for construction, stationery, printing services, cleaning services and many others.
